Care of your jewellery

We offer the following tips to help to ensure that your jewellery continues to look its best.

Silver
Silver will tarnish over time – but it is easy to deal with. You can help to reduce the likelihood of tarnish developing by regularly wiping silver clean with a soft cleaning cloth with a built-in jewellery cleaner (just like the ones we offer!). You may also gently wash in warm water and a mild detergent – drying carefully to avoid water spots. Specialist silver cleaners are available for highly tarnished items (check out your local super market), but should be used sparingly.

Oxidised silver
Some of our pieces include oxidised silver, offering a blackened appearance. Over time, this effect will naturally wear and lighten, providing a more ‘vintage’ look. You should not attempt to clean oxidised silver with a cloth or cleaner as it may strip away the special finish. Simply wash jewellery in a basin of warm water and gently dry on a soft towel.

Brass
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, and will tarnish over time when exposed to oxygen. While some people like the antiqued patina created by the tarnishing process, others like to maintain the shine. Keeping your pieces looking shiny is easy. We recommend a light polish with a jewellery cleaning cloth with a built in cleaner (just like the ones we offer!). You may also gently wash in warm water and a mild detergent – drying carefully to avoid water spots.
Some people have an allergic reaction to brass that can cause a green disclouration on the skin. If this does occur, we recommend applying a coating of clear nail polish on the brass surfaces that are likely to come in contact with your skin, such as rings. (The Nervous System rings already have a coating on them – but this is likely to wear over time).

Gold filled
Gold filled items should not tarnish and can simply be kept clean by washing in warm water and dried with a soft cloth. For extra shine, items may be gently polished with a soft jewellery cloth.

Gold plated
Gold plated items need gentle care to protect the plating. Excessive rubbing and/or use of cleaners or jewellery cloths may damage or wear the plating. Simply gently wipe gold plated items with a soft cloth. To ensure the longevity of gold plated items, we recommend rotating them with other items in your collection – rather than everyday wear.

Stainless steel
Stainless steel does not tarnish (yay!). Simply clean stainless steel items in warm water (add a mild detergent if you like) and dry with a soft cloth.

Ring sizes
The ring sizes used refer to the United States sizing system.
